My Story
Jacob N. Guinn
Upon graduating from college with my degree in finance, I gained an early and important perspective as I watched my dad struggle in retirement after 30 years as a chemical engineer due to a lack of financial planning. This helped me set the direction I wanted to take my career.
I started off in banking while learning the investment industry, where I became a top-tier branch manager while also being a top investment representative within the bank channel. After several years of career development, I reached a crossroads of pursuing senior management opportunities within the bank or focusing on serving clients as a financial advisor. Given my passion for helping people on a more comprehensive financial level, I chose the advisory path in 2009 and never looked back.
I have had the opportunity to work for several excellent banks, including J.P. Morgan. Although successful, I eventually found myself missing the ability to build deeper, more meaningful client relationships within the constraints of the “big bank” model. After some self-reflection, I set a goal to develop a career where I could focus on fewer clients but develop deeper personal relationships that are truly valuable to them.
In 2022, I joined a local independent advisory firm, HFG, which I believed would be the right fit for that vision—and in many ways, it was. I greatly value the relationships I built there. However, over time I came to realize that certain leadership decisions did not align with my personal values or what I believe my clients would want to be associated with.
I have been married for 26 years and have four wonderful daughters. Community involvement is important to me, though it can often be cliché to say. I’ve been closely connected to my church for more than 20 years and have built lasting relationships there, including a close friendship with my pastor, whom I supported as treasurer during his run for city council—against my better advice.
My involvement in the community comes from a genuine place. I care deeply about the people around me and believe in contributing meaningfully, not seeking recognition. I strive to live by a clear set of core values, and I believe my actions—whether with family, church, community, or clients—should consistently reflect those values.
Being an advisor here at AC Family Office is a natural extension of that philosophy. My family and I are here because the professionals share those same principles. We are aligned in our belief that serving a select group of clients allows us to provide a more thoughtful, comprehensive, and personalized level of care than is typical in the broader financial services industry.
In many ways, AC Family Office represents what I had been seeking throughout my career—the opportunity to build meaningful, lasting relationships with clients. I’m now part of a team with more than 200 years of collective experience dedicated to doing exactly that, and it gives me a great sense of pride to know the work we do has a real impact on the families we serve.
